Exercise Prescription and Rehabilitation
Exercise (movement) is one of the most important things for our body. Physical activity can not only help reduce the chances of stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain types of cancers, but it can also help prevent joint and muscle pain. Proper instruction on exercises and rehabilitation can provide patients with the tools to help themselves get out of pain and to prevent injuries in the future. Exercise is shown to help develop thicker cartilage in joints, and build strength in stabilizing muscles to help reduce joint reaction forces.

Instrument Assissted Soft Tissue Mobilization Therapy (IASTM)
ISATM includes any technique that treats the muscles, ligaments, fascia, and tendons using tools other than the provider’s hands. The most commonly known IASTM is Graston, although there are now a number of similar tools including ConnectX, RockBlades, HawkGrips, and Smart Tools. The majority of these tools are surgical stainless steel. The most common tissue that IASTM targets is scar tissue and fascia. The tools help to break up adhesions and restore motion and function. Another type of IASTM is cupping therapy. Cupping therapy dates back to ancient Chinese and Middle Eastern cultures. It provides suction on your skin using plastic cups and a hand-held pump to remove the air from the cup to create the suction. It can help increase blood flow, decrease pain, and is often used as a type of deep tissue massage.
